Today's city is an 8 million people metropolis with an area of 1587 square kilometres. Colombia's capital city is located in the geographical centre of the country at 2600 meters above sea level. The infrastructure and the numerous significant landmarks of interest to tourists shows how national treasures have shaped the city over the last four centuries, since its foundation on August 6th 1538 by Spaniard Gonzalo Jimenéz de Quesada.
